I know god is comming back I have been well informed by all my caring friends of mine who just love to watch me start to panic. Why do people pull that crap every year every year is the end. 2000 was supose to be the end and I spent half the day worrying about the end of the world and now their still doing it. I know it will come some day but why do people try and perdict when it will happen? It's sad to hear of anyone being wound up, and the words of Christ being used as a weapon to do it is especially sad. The church has spent most of the past 2000 years swinging between getting grossly over excited by the prospect of Jesus returning, and largely ignoring the whole area. The tendency recently has been to downplay the doctrine, not least in reaction to the overplaying of it amongst a minority. Perhaps the best thing I can do is suggest that you read the original material in the New Testament and come back having drawn some of your own conclusion. The most accessible passages (not that they are easy!) are Jesus's words on the issue in Matthew 24, and the similar passages in Mark 13 and Luke 21. The balancing passage is in II Thessalonians 2. Maybe in a week or so you can come and ask again about this and we can draw out some conclusions, but I'm unwilling to rush into such a controversial area!! |
