I think first and foremost my faith comes internally, from a knowing, deep within, that there is One out there, and that One loves me.

So rather than the Bible "proving" to me there is a God, it's rather a light guiding me to know and understand the God that I already know exists. In this case, in some ways your questions become irrelevant. It doesn't become so supreme a matter how the men in the councils chose those books which formed the Bible, it doesn't matter so much if some of those books have some technical inconsistancies. The main point is that they lead to know God better than I would without them.

But speaking of the "inconsistencies", I've yet to be presented with any that are terribly convincing. Mostly they're quibbles over meaningless things like how many people lived in this town or what that town was called, or who was who's forebear, or how old so-and-so was when he became king. Or they'll make claims about the OT God being "evil" while the NT one is "nice". But the eternal truths you referred to are there, and stand firm regardless of names and dates, the truths about the OT God seeking to love, and the NT God seeking to seriously deal with sin.

But ultimately, I think you can't force anyone to believe in God with "proofs" and "logic". Faith comes apart from the mind's workings, the mind comes second in making sure the faith is understood and applied consistently.
