Unless, of course, they're lesbians. Praise the Greek lexicon. Literally speaking, gamein (marry) means "take to wife," which means women can't marry either (unless they're lesbians living in Vermont). On the other hand, a woman can gamein, give herself in marriage, while the man, if he gets bored, can gamein, take a paramour (he being of a poly-gamous persuasion). Oh, and to get back to the original point, gametes means husband. So I guess we don't need to worry about an etymological argument in favor of lesbianism.
