Hello Forgiven
Thankyou for your comments above, you make some very interesting points.
You say we have sinned and are spiritually dead, but how do we define sin? We must never forget that the Bible was written by a people who had very limited understanding. For example they didn't understand that disease was caused by a bacteria or a virus, or that mental problems could be caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. Instead they had to speak of mental disorders as being caused by demonic possession, or leprosy as being unclean, a punishment for sins. Indeed, in the same way that the writers of Genesis, didn't understand physics or thermo neuclear dynamics, or big bang theory, or evolution and the complex way in which the human brain had evolved.
But before we get down to forming a new religion lets have a look at some of the fundimentals of what Chris said.
1/ Don't judge others.
We are starting to learn about genetic influences and what effect they can have on personality. We are also starting to learn about conditioning of the enviroment etc. etc. Little wonder that Christ told us not to judge others, since if we had been borne with the same lot as they had, we may well have acted the same.
2/ Forgive others.
Exactly the same points as I made in point 1/ above. People may we not be responsible for some of the actions they commit due to genetic disorders etc.
3/ Obey the law.
Christ made constant reference to obaying the law. Different societies have different customs. A certain sort of behavior in on society may well be frowned on in another. In other words we need to live together by a set of rules for mutual good.
Now it strikes me that that Christ knew an awful lot about the true nature of the world and ourselves, which isn't bad for somebody living 2000 years ago. Have you noticed how he didn't spend all his time quoting chapter and verse from Hebrew Scriptures, and dare I say criticized people who did.
He was a radical who taught love and the glorification of God.
