"But the broader question outside the issue of the innocent child does not allow for a compromise - we have sinned, are spiritually dead and deserve eternal seperation from God. That is at the core of the New Testament, tear that out and as far as I'm concerned you've invented a new religion. The good news is that God has opened the way back to Him despite this situation - at the cost of Jesus dying on the cross."

Being schooled in the Evangelical tradition (I tradition I now reject) I was taught that the only way back to God was to accept Jesus as saviour, and the only was to do that was to first hear and then respond to the Gospel message. That being so, how can a baby that dies within moments of being born ever get back to God? How could someone who'd never heard the Gospel message - and eskimo, say - ever do it? When I asked these questions, I was introduced to the idea of "election": God chooses who is to be saved and who is to be damned. So, the child and the eskimo are both damned.

Peace be with you
