Most Christians would tell you that (basically) you have to suffer tremendously, be consumed in the fire of righteousness to become one with the Lord.

My answer: Bull.

A just God would not make a righteous man suffer just to "test his mettle"...but, by the same token, I believe that there is always a purpose, a certain karmic fate in whatever happens.

I'll forgoe the "millstone about the neck" speech but will mention that Jesus found the innocence of children to be so sacred that he did in fact make the speech himself. Now, consider the numbers of pedophiles upon just the few boards you can find a Boylinks. Pedophilia seems to have taken on epidemic porportions.

One alternative to acting upon your impulses is that you break the "cycle"...and have that many less pedophiles in the future.

Another alternative is that you use those feelings to help children who have no one else to help them. Someone who "loves" children intensely should use that love. Perhaps God gave you this "curse" because he hopes you will use it to better the future for children who probably wouldn't have had a future.

I tend to think of my "curse" as a gift. It gives me the power to change the lives of children who would otherwise have had little or no future worth speaking of. It gives me an empathy for what these children go through. And it (the love) gives me the strength to carry on long after all my other feelings have played out.

I don't know if this makes any sense to you, but there is always a reason for what happens. All you have to do is discover what the reason is.
