All married Christians are tempted to adultery at some time. An obvious truth, although one that is unlikely to be appreciated in a Sunday Sermon. :-) So for most Christians, their local church should be the place where they go for help to overcome this temptation in their lives. For those of us struggling with the issue of being Boylovers, we have no similar local resource - instead the admission that we are struggling in this area is likely to have us marginalised within our Christian community as a threat to kids. So instead those of us who are not out to anyone in their local church end up having to find other Christian structures to provide the support which the local church is failing to provide. In practice of course most churches live the lie that their members are all totally saintly and don't suffer any temptation. So they don't need to relate closely enough together to be able to talk freely about it. The inevitable outcome is that a lot of them fall into sin and either cover it up or leave the church - and the survivors 'tut tut' about those terrible people when the gossip gets around about what has happened. It is the glory before God of this board that we are free to talk about these painful issues and provide one another with a depth of support that is probably greater than many of us have received in our churches on any issue. My dream would be that one day this board will be unnecessary because all churches will be able to cope with people struggling in this area; sadly this is about as likely as a zero divorce rate and a zero crime rate. Until then we exist to serve the Christian Boylover - and perhaps to challenge the wider church as to how to cope with the issues that our existance as boylovers within her body raises. |
