Uncomfortable yet?

Once upon a time, I attended a very nice evangelical church which occasional began with the senior pastor praying for God to comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable.

no..I don't want to give them up, and I think it is very unfair of anyone....(including God) to ask me to do so.

Whether God wants you or anyone to "give them up" is not an issue I want to get into. What I would like to address is the danger of idolatry. If you think that there is any aspect of your life which God has no right to meddle with, I suspect that you are trying to serve two gods. Not only did He create you, He also redeemed you. You are not your own, you were bought at a price.

It's quite true that it f e e l s extremely unfair when God asks us to take up our cross and follow Him, but this is not really an option for those who have joined themselves to Him. The particular cross you have to bear is most likely very different from the one I'll be crucified on, but subjectively it is no more difficult. (Oh, did I mention we have to die to ourselves?)

Cheers!
