St. John writes of the Lamb who was slain from the foundation of the world (Rev. 13:8). The love of the Triune God is quite precisely self-giving, and this self-giving dynamic is of an eternal, pre-existent nature. T. F. Torrance has done some good work on this, as has Colin Gunton.
