to steal the intro of 'Babylon 5 Crusade'. What follows is a it heavy, but I hope will open up some of the issues for us to work with.

One of the challenges for this board remains the question of what is meant by the term 'Christian'. Before the Reformation there was little doubt - to be a Christian was to believe what the church believed. Since then the word that has been stretched to cover a range of beliefs and on the whole tends to mean some vague commitment to loving your neighbour as yourself. Of course as this is a belief common to all the major belief systems of world, the effect is to reduce Christianity to a shell of what Bible indicates it to be (For a fuller discussion of this, I'd encourage you to get hold of C.S. Lewis's 'Mere Christianity')

At the core of the New Testament is the offer of forgiveness for our past mistakes, and a call to repentance - to go God's way in our lives. Thus the traditional belief of the church starts from the question 'What is God's opinion of this behaviour'. Although it is possible to debate the ultimate authority in specific details, the clear and overwhelming consensus of the church is that sex is for marriage - defined as a permanent relationship between a man and a woman (let's not get into the legitimacy of gay relationships on THIS thread).

By contrast the appeal you are making is to 'Science'; because for the boys you are reporting on, a sexualised relationship (and I assume that is what you are getting at, because otherwise we have no disagreement) has been a positive thing, you are arguing that Western culture is wrong in rejecting the behaviour. To me, this is to put your trust in 'Science' over God; this is not the Christian thing to do.

I hope that makes sense, and I look forward to further discussion.
