I figured if I didn't post something to the effect of a boy moment, I figured that I would be a hypocrite. So here is my moment. I am a counselor at camp. And this summer was one of the best summers I had. I was blessed at meeting MANY wonderful kids. And this summer, I met Jerry, all I could think of is WHAT A CUTE KID! I mean this kid had a cute little buzzed head. He was just a little red headed porcupine. He had the biggest puppy dog eyes. And he had such a high, sweet, innocent voice that your heart just melts when he talks. I had gotten to know him throughout the week. This kid would cling to his counselors every chance he got. And when his mom came to pick him up at the end of the week, I found out that he had 4 brothers and sisters. I asked him if he were coming back next year, and he replied, "I don't know. I think it may be my brother's turn to go to camp." Now, I try to make it a point to call all of my campers on their birthday. And today, I was able to call a kid named Jerry. However, the experience was very humbling. When I do call kids, I always ask if they got anything good for their birthday! Usually, I get answers like, "I got N64 or Playstation." Or I get, "We went to the arcade." "Yeah. My party was AWESOME!" But today, I called Jerry. When I asked him if he got anything cool, he simply replied, "Yeah. I got candles on my cake!" He was so excited. And I just smiled and talked with him for a moment. Then, we hung up and I was shocked. Little Jerry was so excited because he got candles on his cake. So many of us are upset when we get a pair of black jeans instead of blue jeans. And this child was ecstatic because he got candles on the cake. So many times I thought blowing out candles on a cake was silly and pointless. However, from now on, I will see those candles in a different light. GodBless you everyone. Huck |
