The Christian Label

Funny, I just went through a big battle explaining how the word "pedophile" served to completely define a person: their views, their morality, their value to humanity. Nothing else mattered once you got the label.

But here we have this label "christian" which does just the opposite. Once you claim it, your views, your morality, your value to humanity, they all get a power boost, at least in the eyes of other christians.

But that label comes with quite the price, in the end, as all labels do. When a bishop asked Huxley in a public forum on evolution: On which side of your family are you related to the ape's, your mother's or your father's?"

He answered: "I'd rather be a man descended from the apes, than a man afraid to face the truth." Isn't that the sadest thing about christainity, a to often repeated, centuries long consistancy in ignoring the truth?

And when a twelve-year-old reaches out to my shoulders and puts his tongue into my eager mouth, I can only say I'm glad I am able to face the truth his ability to love, and I'm sorry for those who can't.
