You can find oodles of news articles and editorials on this topic at the site below, on the two pages devoted to the "Name and Shame" riots. The headlines alone give a good sense of the chronology of events.

As I've mentioned here before, one of the most shameful aspects of this matter was the silence of the churches about what had happened. A Church of England official did speak out against the violence, thank goodness, and a C of E newspaper published editorials against the voilence. The Methodist Church (which recently published a report on sex offenders) finally issued a statement – to Philia. :) All of the other churches (as far as I can tell on this side of the Atlantic) were dead silent, though a local clergyman or two raised his voice in protest.

This is in stark contrast to the recent publicity over the separation of a pair of Siamese twins in Britian (in which one of the children was expected to die), a matter on which even the Pope felt compelled to comment. Not to be cynical, but are threats against the lives of hundreds of people of less importance to the churches than the death of a child?
