Ok, you got me again. I do tend to speak off the top of my head. By saying "trusting and innocent" I was referring only to certain aspects of children's lives, such as that they do not usually have jobs, own property, or have certain legal rights and responsibilities, and that they just do not have as much life experience as adults. In these ways, they do need to trust adults to guide and help them.

By saying "untainted", I meant that kids often don't filter their experinces and emotions the way some adults do--they just feel what they feel, and say what they think. But certainly they do not always feel or think things that are "nice" or "innocent". Although perhaps many of the children that I know are just unusually sheltered. Perhaps there are many boys who are more sophisticated than the ones I have known, however, so don't take me as making a sweeping generalization. I am only speaking from my own experience (having grown up in a rural area, I guess people were more innocent there than in "big cities").

But I was definitely not speaking about boys' overall lives. Of course the lives of children are complex, with many problems and issues just like adults have, and they are surely not "innocent" in regards to these matters, or unaware of their own lives. I can remember quite well how much pain and complexity was in my own childhood.

I guess (since I am new to posting), that I will have to be more aware of the fact that you all can't read my mind, so I can't just assume that the things I say will always make sense the way I meant them.
