Asb refers to the story to contrast the "we-ness" of the fictitious characters with the "we-ness" that he feels would be impossible in a relationship with a boy in real life. The story is alluded to in order to contrast it with real-life. IRL: "I want that sence of "we." Of my life being as important to someone else, to have that other hand there when i reach for it. The story appears to be mentioned for purposes of contrasting the "we-ness", the mutuality of fiction with Real Life. If I have it right, and I think I do, "asb" would like to have a relationship with a boy with the degree of mutuality, or "we-ness" that is present in the story but knows can't happen IRL.
