mvan, you say:

"So please explain why he starts out by refering to a story of an adult and a 14-year-old."

Simple.

Asb says:

"What got to me the most is that these two characters were committed to each other. The adult would say things like "we do do those things" and "we are like that." And that is what is hurtting the most-I'm lonely."

Asb refers to the story to contrast the "we-ness" of the fictitious characters with the "we-ness" that he feels would be impossible in a relationship with a boy in real life.

The story is alluded to in order to contrast it with real-life.

IRL: "I want that sence of "we." Of my life being as important to someone else, to have that other hand there when i reach for it. You can never have that in a relationship with a boy, it's an adult thing."

"So please explain why he starts out by refering to a story of an adult and a 14-year-old."

The story appears to be mentioned for purposes of contrasting the "we-ness", the mutuality of fiction with Real Life.
If I have it right, and I think I do, "asb" would like to have a relationship with a boy with the degree of mutuality, or "we-ness" that is present in the story but knows can't happen IRL.

"Certainly your feelings, your life, your value to society is inferior to everyone else's. "

I am prepared to put up with being something of a door-mat, if it's the polite thing to do.

"The moment you start to think that way, you BECOME that way"
I'm afraid I don't subscribe to magical thinking.

"...except there is probably a boy or two or ten out there who could benefit from a self-respecting lover".

If you had sex in mind as part of this loving relationship, you had better find a way to defuse the seriousness of rape/statutory rape/sex first, of all sexual acts.
