Because I've met an awful lot of people whose feelings about boylovers changed when they realized that they didn't actually know what boylovers are. Take, for example, a certain ex-gay who was willing to let himself be called a boylover. :) Technical jargon tends to build barriers, whether it be professional jargon or ethnic jargon. Sometimes those barriers are helpful – they bring the members of the community closer and allow them to communicate in the most effective manner – but when it reaches the point of giving outsiders a false picture of the community, I think that a little translating can be helpful.
