I believe you're right in associating the theology of gay relationships with the theology of gender roles in general, and roles of women in particular. That's another issue pulling the church in shreds in some quarters, the question of whether women should lead the church, women's ordination.
It amuses me to meet those who confidentally affirm that women should be able to become pastors, but who shudder in horror at the thought that gays should too. I'm reasonably certain the two issues are ultimately the same thing, addressing the sense and meaning of gender in general.

I understand your point about the majority walking down the broad path to destruction, and wanting to be wary of that. I'd only counter that, in my personal context growing up in the evangelical church, supporting gays is the narrow path. The majority thinks gays are perverted and depraved. That should give you a bit of insight into my motivation for challenging the conservative view against homosexuality.

I can't quite decide if I have anything to say about your comment on "common grace", so I'll leave it there :)
