Ideally, you draw closer; however, based on my experience, many choose not to work on the differences each partner has. Instead, it seems, all too often, couples get "caught up" in their own "stuff" and the relationship either spirals out of control or the two accept the "blahness" of the relationship.

Of course, in a relationship, the only way through the "stuff" is to work together and the only way to improve a relationship is to work on oneself and the only way to work on oneself is to "listen" to God. In the end, although others can "show" us things, we are alone in our walk with God.
