Because of our caring, compassion, and strong empathy, it is indeed difficult for us to let go. You are right that we are trying to control things when it is God who we must trust to make things work out. I have been trying to "let go" of Nick hoping that he will reach out. Is God bringing us into these lives in order to use us to break down the walls and to alleviate the pain? Nick mentioned great saddness and suicide, yet the last time I saw him, his life was taking off. He was back with his best friend. He had been feeling guilty for something that happened between them, but my honesty has alleviated the guilt he had been experiencing. He still has no commuinication with his dad, but I think I helped Nick see that in time, God will most likely repair this relationship. Nick is winning in his sports activites and got straight A's on his latest report card. Hasn't my influence with him this summer already made a great difference? Of course, it is God who has brought it all together for Nick, but He used me in a positive way.

Still, I desire to be with Nick. Like I said in the previous post, I am glad I am not near him, for I would be suffocating him, and probably "killing" the relationship. It is his life, and I can only hope that when we do get to see each other again, we will continue the intamacy we had this summer. I should be content with the 9 years I have known Nick. However, since this summer, I have come to love him very much. Well, I thank you for sharing your story. Indeed, I want to be a source of light and not be a thorn in Nick's side.

Your friend,
~Once a Boy
