All I feel up to saying at the moment... is that your friend shouldn't blame himself for anything the kid decides to do... People do things that they shouldn't... But you can't say 'oh, I'm fucked up because I was molested' or 'because I was raped' or 'because my mom left us' or anything else... Lots of shit happened to me as a kid, and now I'm about as dull, boring & honest a person as you're likely to find... Everyone is responsible for their own choices....

Just to be more clear, did the kid not want to be 'touched'? I would think that if ever there is a man & a boy, who both want 'it', much more harm is done by ending it...

"...asked in fear, "What are you doing here?"" - That's a perfectly normal reaction when some one walks in on you when you're 'busy', in my opinion.

"...involved in drugs and is doing poorly in school." - Lots of people are... Some had the worst time growing up you can imagine, others had no problems at all... There's no real way of knowing what causes people to do the things they do... No shrink could tell you either... I feel that the only one who is really qualified to psycho-analyze a person, is that person themselves... But most people are not gifted with the logic necessary to do so...

I'd say that your friend wasn't around enough to do any real damage... Perhaps he should have stayed, he might could have helped... I suppose that he should do whatever he feels is right... Talking, face to face is really more effective, though...

A quote, from memory, so it's not perfect:

F: There's no way we can know, and nothing we can do about it. Do what I do.
A: What?
F: Don't think about it.
