I am a sinner in that I have sinned and will likely sin again. I don't believe that I am sinful in the sense that I have a nature or disposition toward sin.

To say that one acts with self interest is different than saying one is selfish. I think it's right and proper to act in a way that further's one's own objective. I think the N.T. contains much hyperbole on the subject of meekness. I doubt Jesus intended for us all to be Ned Flanders. If we are sued at the law to take away our coats and we give our cloaks as well, this is not the same as simply acquiescing to every idle imposition. If we be obligated to render our coat to someone, we should do so cheerfully and in abundance.

I give a good amount of my means and time to the poor, but I retain the large part for myself. Is this un-Christian of me? No, for the laborer is worthy of his hire. It's a matter of how much you want God to bless you. Those who give everything and follow Jesus are the most blessed. Or so we preach.
