Get ready for the usual parading of my "self-righteous indignation" :)

[OK really, these are just my opinons. As usual, with a grain of salt, take them, if you wish. I do however enjoy being somewhat of a loudmouth when I am anonymous. Maybe this is just the pent-up anger of being 25 years old in this silly country, caught precariously between childhood and adulthood, still].

1. The age of consent laws just don't make sense. "Statutory" rape is a strange, and illogical concept. You can't just say that every person under such and such an age is always not ready for sex, you just can't, because there are some people who will never be "ready" for sex, no matter how old they get. If you really wanted to set the age of consent somewhere that no one would EVER get hurt, you would have to make the age of consent 150, or something like that, because people *can* get hurt by having sex, just like they *can* get hurt by walking down the street and slipping on a banana peel. The point I am making is that LIFE IS FULL OF RISKS! Risk-taking is part of daily life, and "statutory" laws that say it is ALWAYS wrong to do such-and-such a thing, are just in denial of this basic fact.

2. It is probably more likely that people under 18 could be hurt, statistically speaking, by sex, than people over, say, 40. But this is just a matter of averages. It does not necessarily apply to any particular situation. So a law that is set in stone still doesn't make sense to me, even though kids may very well be more vulnerable than adults.

3. Point #2 is exactly why boylovers MUST be VERY DISCIPLINED and careful and thoughtful about how they relate to boys. The more vulnerable someone is, the more you need to treat them gently and respectfully, with great care.

4. I do like much of what I have read that mvanhouten has said. I haven't read a lot of his things, but I do like some of them. But I also tend to agree with the positions of FreeSpirits and other "secular" boylove organizations, so I am more liberal in this respect than many other people on this board.
