I think you need to remind J that you were once a student, like he is, and that becoming a teacher doesn't automatically make you enemies with pupils. I'm not an expert but I myself used to hold the belief that the teachers were working against me somehow (even though I never did poorly). What changed my view is #1: They showed me they cared (from what I've read you've already done this) 2: My favorite teachers were the ones that I could have a natural conversation with that had nothing to do with school (not necesarily during school hours) but I don't know how you could up the level of casual interaction without seeming strange (I'm making assumptions I think, I'm sure that you do have normal discussions with students) Hmm... I really can't think of any more off the top of my head at the moment, it's 3:30am now... I just thought I'd give my 2¢ from a student's point of view (well, current student as opposed to former student :) ) Not sure how much it'll help you out though. Cheers |
