Yes, you're exactly right. It was the same with gays. No one noticed the ones who lived responsibly--only the ones who were promiscuous, etc. I've been thinking it would be fascinating to write up a description of how stereotypes are created, how institutions and people perpetuate them, and how they demonize people and discriminate. Then trace how this has happened with Jews, blacks, gays, and now boylovers - a direct comparison so people could see the parallels. It would make an interesting website! Mark |
