Everyone has certain things that keep them from God. Some (obviously not you) do work their lives really hard to get a new toy. They get a high from getting a new car, the latest computer, the kewlest clothes, ect. In fact, most of us in America are bombarded with advertisements that show that we can't live without the newest thing. The materialistic stuff brings you the girl. It brings you status in your community. So, in that way, I believe he was making his point. People (obviously not you) end up worshipping these things. A father will work endless hours because money is more important than spending time fishing with his son. Of course, there are other things that keep people from spending time with their sons. Some are obseesed with sleeping around with other woman. Some have an alchol or drug addiction. Others would rather be at the racetrack than creating "love" between a father and son. We could go on and on. But basically, we can say that these things that keep us from the hearts of our fellow man are the things that we are in a sense are worshipping, for indeed we are not pleasing God by giving our time to things that don't matter, that don't last. Only love matters. It is the only thing that endures. Instead, we "mess up" pretty damn good. ~Once a Boy |
