Things can seem very low. Everyone has feelings of depression sometimes in life. It is difficult to see light in the darkness. When I have been down in life, here's some of the things I do:

1) I walk and walk and walk. For me, being at the beach or hiking a mountain and breathing in fresh air does something special to me.

2) I get my mind off things. Building a puzzle or painting a water color scene or writing a poem can just focus the mind on that particular task. It gives the depression a break.

3) I read the new testament and parts of the old testament (like Psalms), and/or other uplifting stories or passages.

4) I visit friends. Sometimes looking at old pictures and reading old letters and cards makes us remember the good times and that life is up depite the sometimes down in which you describe. For me, it helps me to rememeber the people I have been "connected" with and helps me realize there will come again more people who will enhance my life. Basicaly, I realize I have found loving people before, and it will happen again!

5) I pray and cry out my heart to God. I believe God does hear us when our hearts truly empty to Him. I then look to see the little things to be thankful for. I even write these down in a journal book! Sometimes a beautiful sunset on one of my walks or a call from an old friend can make me think I am fortunate and begin to move the tide to a more positive out look on things.

There are of course many other things. These work for me. Feel free to steal any of these ideas. Think about what might work for you too. Everyone is indeed different.

By the way, some people can love you despite your education. Some people can love you despite your having been in prison. Some people can love you despite your drug problem. Some people can love you despite, as you put it, "sinning in every unimaginable way." Many people could let guilt consume them, but as difficult as it is to imagine, God wants us to shine on and not be drowned in our guilt and sinful deeds.

Each day is a new. Each day brings hope that we will take more steps forwards than backwards. Each day brings hope that we will find a friend who will build us up and not tear us down. It is hard to believe these things when one is down and in darkness, but there is a great light hoping for you to learn from your past and make steps towards a brighter tomorrow.
By the way, getting out of depression is a process, and the blah will not be alleviated over night. Hang in there!

Best wishes,
~Once a Boy
