My question could be interpreted as a request for "proof texts" from scripture supporting that position, but that's not what I'm asking.

Ford, I choose to base my beliefs on Scripture. If I don't have the Word to light my path, I am lost. I really have no other way to answer this question without using Scripture -- anything else would be the opinions and traditions of man, if not questionable divine revelations. As my previous posts have shown, I often use the Bible to back up my statements. That is how I am and will always be. Perhaps you could say that I'm the fundamentalist of this forum? I've seen a lot of lengthy posts written out of, what appears to me, things people have either learned for themselves and/or from other people, with little scriptural basis. With me, I don't believe something unless it lines up with scripture. It's just how I am and will always be. People can tell me if they see this as a fault in me, but it will be a long time before anyone can make me believe any different.

What I'm wondering is what it is you see in the nature of God that would mandate his requiring that Jesus "die as a blood sacrifice to cover the sins of mankind."

To answer this without the use of Scripture, I'd have to say that I see God as a loving God who was making a way for us to gain salvation by having our sin/debts paid for through a blood sacrifice (His only son even!) according to the fulfillment of the Law.

It's an impossible argument to make without digging into the scripture and Old Testament history. A lot of people see "blood" and "sacrifice" as words with nothing but bad connotations. They have a hard time understanding why a blood sacrifice had to be made for our salvation. But there must be something very supernatural about blood sacrifices. Why else do some satanists and those who practice magick have their own counterfeit blood sacrifices? And why do Roman Catholics have mass every week where the main focus is on the spilled blood and broken body of Jesus Christ?

I'd have to use Scripture to continue this discussion, but I understand that it means little to those who doubt the Truth of God's Word. To me, the Bible is God's Word and is the Truth. If other people on this board can have their own views and be repsected for them, then please allow me to have mine. I think you can agree that the variety of views here is something from which we all can learn and grow.

It's strange how one person can have a traumatic experience as a boy and it influences the way he develops into a man, but then that same person has a hard time understanding that others also have had their personal experiences that have shaped the way they live and believe as grown men. We all have lived our own lives and have come to believe what we believe because of different circumstances in our lives. I think we need to be more understanding (and patient) of this.

The last paragraph was written to no one in particular. Peace.
