It's strange how one person can have an experience as a boy (whether traumatic or not) and it influences the way he develops into a man, but then that same person has a hard time understanding that others also have had their personal experiences that have shaped the way they act and believe as grown men.

Most of us don't choose to believe in something for no reason at all. We're not idiots. We all have lived our own lives and have come to believe what we believe because of different circumstances in our lives. Who's to say that we wouldn't share the same beliefs of those we disagree with if we had lived their life instead? Does it make their belief the right one? Maybe not. But at least we can be more understanding of why different people hold different beliefs.

I think most of us can agree that the variety of views here is something from which we all can learn and grow, and I think our discussions will always be a little more productive when we try to be a little more understanding.
