Fair enough, Jim, I'll speak plainly. You are a bigot. I don't mean that derogatively, in the sense of putting you down, I say it as a simple fact. Although you like to often call me and others here "bigoted", the definition of bigot is a person who is prejudiced and intolerant of differing views. That definition applies to you. I don't believe it applies to me. Feel free to explain how you think it does. The truth of the matter is I am extremely sympathetic to the view, contrary to the teachings of conservative Christians, that there is nothing in general wrong with gay relationships. If you ask Forgiven, I'm fairly sure he'll tell you he thinks I'm completely pro-gay. But what I am most of all interested in is that all sides of the argument get a fair hearing. If conservative Christians think gay relationships are always wrong, then let them have the chance to explain why they believe that. Let their theories of gender and theology be heard and understood. And only then can you successively and effectively refute those theories and teachings and present something better. But if you will not let them speak, if you're not willing to listen, you're being a bigoted shit-stirrer. That's more or less what I see in your behaviour, that you are not giving conservative Christians the freedom the explain the reasons why they believe gay relationships to be wrong. You've made your mind up and are not willing to listen to their concerns, concerns about the relationship of gender to gender, concerns about the non-monogamous nature commonly found in gay relationships, concerns about God maybe having some Higher Plan for humanity that we don't properly understand. These concerns may be misplaced, but they nevertheless must be openly addressed. Not jeered at. I hope that helps you understand my point. Regards, Fod |
