So much of what I've read today concentrates on the ideas of depravity, of perversion, of sinfulness. I've seen what looks to me to be an almost obsessive seeking out of what can be classified as sinful, what can be abhorred, what can be detested, what can be regarded with disgust and horror. It looks to me as if trying to be responsible and respectful in our relations with others takes a back seat to compiling a seemingly endless list of sins to avoid. I believe that when we seek to do good for others and to respect them as brothers and sisters who are every bit as deserving of respect and love as we are, then responsible behavior naturally flows from this. Seeking to be united with Jesus in his concern for people is what I see as the way. ---Ford |
