Many other reasons have been speculated: 4. Distant or absent father 5. Early childhood sexual experiences 6. Repressed childhood sexuality 7. Domineering mother, passive father 8. Arrested emotional development All of these were also proposed as causes of homosexuality, but have since been discredited. No one has found any conclusive evidence of any particular cause of homosexuality or pedophilia or hebephilia. When I emailed a sexologist who is considered an expert on pedophilia and hebephilia, and asked him about causes, he said nothing is known, just as no one knows what causes heterosexuality. From what I have read by the American Psychological Association, most sexologists believe homosexuality is caused by complex interactions between genetic, physiological (even before birth), and environmental factors. Since the phenomena of pedophilia and hebephilia are so similar psychologically to other forms of homosexuality, I would think the same is true for any of these orientations. Mark |
