Another Weekend Report

Submitted by Huck Finn on January 24 2001 01:41:35

This past weeekend was a good one. A very spiritual weekend for me.

You may remember hearing about my adventures with counseling 2 weeks ago. How much of a wonderful time I had. How much fun I had! How much I loved the kids.

This week was great too.. except in many different ways. I got there really early because this weekend, I went up with a few friends and we drove there instead of taking the bus.

So I had about 4 hours to kill before the first kid was due to show up. They forgot to assign my group of kids to a cabin! SO we had to arrange everything around and I was placed in the cabin up on the hill. So that means my cabin and only one other would have to walk up the hill to get where we were going. It was alright. But annoying just the same. I found out that I'd be in charge of 13 boys all by myself! Which is quite a task. Getting them to bed, doing bible time at night, getting them to chapel and meals... but hardest thing is getting them to brush their teeth and put the toilet seat up! ;-) (Little rule I have that the kids can't leave the toilet seat down! We're guys... if you're not looking you just might pee on the seat.)

Well, the first night I was excited because I knew 8 of the kids from previous years and 11 of them knew me. 2 of them were actually my campers before and 2 of them were kids I had always wanted in my cabin. All in all, I had a really good group. A little loud at night... but that's fine with me. I don't mind. It lets me stay up a little later by walking around taking flashlights and saying GO TO BED! I don't do it because I'm upset, but I Love seeing their faces turn all scared.

But that night, I did a devotion on testimonies and asked all the kids what it meant for them to be a Christian. My favorite answer was a boy named Nathan who said, "It's becoming a child of God and living your life in a service of thanksgiving to the Lord." WHOA! GO Mr. 13 year old! He was the oldest of the cabin. But some of the younger boys had pretty good answers too! They all seemed Christians by the words they told me. They knew exactly what it was to be a Christian and grasped the idea of salvation!

I then read (Huck Finn reading which is NOTHING like most people read) John 4 where Jesus met the Samartian at the well and Jesus offered her Living Water. Then shared my own testimony. It was a late night, but that's ok. One of the boys said, "Good job tonight Huck!"

That really rose my spirits. The worship during the weekend was wonderful! I love the group that did it! They've done it for a while now and I've become good friends with the members. They dedicate songs to me and try to embarass me too! It was funny because they said that a love song was from "Me to Kyle" the guitar player who is now 15. He's a very handsome boy who always thought my actions were childish and immature... but he's grown to respect me and has seen how I reach out to kids. :-) He's a magnificent guitar player and all the Jr High girls went gaga over him.

That night, I did another devotion based on the story, "It takes Guts to say Jesus." I'll post that as a follow up to this message if you'd like it. IT was the story that changed my life. After I heard it, I changed my way of living and stood up for Christ!

And the boys who were still awake when I was telling the story loved it! And then we talked a little bit and I asked the boys to pray for me. I am applying to be the Speaker at one or two of the weeks at camp and I asked them all to pray for me! I'm excited about it and it looks like it'll work out pretty good! Praise God! huh?

THe boys learned a lot from me. We had a little wrestling match. Which IMHO was SO boring. I said, Come on boys let's go... you see, I love wrestling, but I usually don't do it because I'm so much bigger than the kids. ANd I did it with my YFs a few weeks ago and we had a blast. The two of them took me on and we just loved every second of it. Now I was surrounded by 8 boys and they were so BORING! :::sigh::: Oh well. Perhaps next time.

OH, and let me tell you, MOSHING in a group of boys when you're twice their hight and about 6 times the size of the smallest, is SOOO Much fun!
Especially when you're just bouncing around and having fun and the kids are laughing and jumping onto you and trying to push you over.

I had a great weekend. Except for the fact that Satan kept trying to get to me. He kept making me feel miserable. Yet I had/have NO reason to be! I'm heading towards a place he doesn't want me to go! I'm telling kids about Christ. I'm growing SPirituall. And he DOESN"T want me to do it! So he just made me feel so weird and upset about the weekend when you all can see I clearly did a good job at relating Christ to the kids and grew spiritually myself. All 13 of my boys made a commitment last weekend. The speaker challenged them to stand up if they were willing to read one of the Gospels And all of my boys stood up. And then the speaker had them all find a partner who will hold them to that! What a great thing huh?

I pray each of those boys will read the Lord's Gospel.

well, hope you enjoyed my weekend report.

God Bless you.
And pray for me... no more boys in my life starting next week. I'll be going to college and having a HUGE busy schedule... So therefore, I'll be gong crazy! But, perhaps I'll be attending my roommates home church which is a distance away but I love it there. And we will stop by his house after service... that way I'll see "Little One" my YF every weekend! That would be sweeter than sweet! It would be truly AWESOME!

God Bless you all!
