Jordan 6: For Everyone

Dear Everyone,

There's a reason I keep returning to push the idea of us (as humans) seeking the good instead of, by nature, seeking evil. So often here I read stories that contain phrases like "I must fight my lust," "I must not give in to my sinfulness," "I must keep my love pure and not allow my evil desires to corrupt it."

While these seem (indeed are) noble intentions I think they set up a deep inner conflict. Statements like this can put us at war with ourselves. I think, in the long run, they make us more likely to "fall" or just simply make a mistake. I think they make recovering from the fall (or mistake) harder since they serve only to confirm "just how rotten I really am."

If we are seeking good, but make the mistake of seeking it where it isn't to be found, then we simply need to look in the right place. We're not then putting ourselves down, we're acknowledging a desire for what only God can give us. We're then moving toward what is good rather than constantly trying to back away from something we feel attracted to.
