Jordan 4: Alternative Theologies

Dear Jordan,

There are alternate theologies that explain how and why we are hurt. Here's one possibility (the one I identify with). I see us all as God's children. I see us all as naturally seeking good, not evil. I see that in seeking good, we can be fooled.....especially when we're seeking something like comfort, understanding and intimacy which we so strongly need.

Men who are attracted to boys are, just as anyone else, seeking these same things.....and we too can become desperate in our search. We can let our desparation drive us beyond the limits the boy would or even does set. Our seeking of these good things from someone who is unable to give us all we need is a greivous mistake, but not a desire for that which is evil. It is a futile, frustrating quest to find a particular kind of good from a source unable to provide it.

Sexual contact isn't at all necessary for us to damage each other in this way. If a boy whose boundaries I'm determined to respect sees, nonetheless, that I'm disappointed we couldn't have the relationship I was hoping for, he's still going to be hurt.

The way out then, as I see it, isn't more resolve to avoid sin, but a turning to God for the comfort, understanding and intimacy others, through no fault of their own, are unable to give us.
