Jordan 2: Dealiing with Injury

Dear Jordan, I think there are several ways we can deal with people and situations that have hurt us. The most direct is to distance ourselves from them.....indeed, to build walls between us and them. It seems to me this is what you've done and have used what I'd call a separatist theology to help. Scripture provides plenty of support for such a theolgy. We can find encouragement to think of ourselves (Christians) as a people set apart. The doctrines you so vigorously defend: only Christians are true sons of God, only Christians can be saved, only Christians can attain everlasting union with God, only Christians have any hope of separating themselves from sin, etc. help remove you from those who, for whatever reason, caused you pain. Your experiences are consistent with the idea that man is, by nature, sinful and will, left to his own devices, seek evil over good. ---Ford |
