How can society not impose guilt and shame?

Indeed, much of the pain and guilt would be becuase of society-imposing them on the boy. However, these can't be removed (easily). They exists! To change society in this regard is a much greater task than Martin Luther King had, and look what happened to him! Death would most certainly follow a man who began a movement to change society's view that sex between an adult and child is okay. Therefore, since society is as it is, the guilt and shame is more than likely EVENTUALLY going to affect most boys engaged in sex with a man. I read Mark's post about a 14 year old who was okay with it. It really does depend on the boy and whether he cares about society. Indeed, my Joseph didn't care; however, I did. I put my inabiility to be able to see myself at age 14 with a man (granted I wasn't much of a man when I was with Joe. I was only 25 and looked and acted like I was 18)...yet still, because of my own inability to think in the way you are describing stopped me from moving our relationship into a sexual relationship. In a sense, I am happy. I still know Joe (now 22); however, who is to say he would not be here living with me today had I not "killed" Joe's desire for a sexual relationship. Of course, it matter not. I am where I am today. Anyway, society does have a pull on us. This is a fact, and I think many do not know the pull until they have to confront such an issue. If, we as adults, have difficulties with issues of homosexualtity or whether one can love a boy in a sexual way, I wonder how a boy can handle this? And even if he is able to handle the issue as a boy, what happpens when he becomes a man and tries to deal with this issue? Some would be okay, but how do you know such a relationship will not cause the boy "problems" in the future? |
