| A very good post. I have also often wondered about the motivations of the intensely homophobic, and I suspect that more than a few of them are in deed gay in their orientation, and have struggled so hard to repress it internally that they must turn that fear outward. As they said in one of the star wars movies, fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to distruction (ok maybe I didn't get the quote down perfectly). Certianly the most blasphmous thing I have ever seen were the anti gay protesters at Mathew Shepard's funeral. Screaming to the parents of a murdered son that their boy was going to hell, and doing so in the name of Christ. If you have to boil Christianity down to one phrase, I think it is from the "Our Father". "Forgive us our tresspasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us". That goes for us as well, we should try to forgive those who would persecute us, even as we pray for their hearts to open. |
