A year or two ago, I saw Desmond Tutu on one of the more serious talk shows, Charlie Rose or something like that. He made very much the same point, that the act of forgiving, does not mean forgetting, but it is something that you do for your own sprit, as much as for the sake of those that you are forgiving. By forgiving, you melt away your anger. Anger is dangerous to your soul, because it often leads to hate. is good for your soul, hate will only harm your soul. Tutu was making the point from a societial point of view as well as on a personal level. South Africa will always have to remember what happened under Aparthid, but if it were to sink into a cycle of retribution and revenge, there would be no way for the society to prosper. Or as Obi Wan Kenobe said "Beware the Dark side, young Skywalker"
