No I've not got it all sorted, as I seem to be giving the impression!! Though I don't get tormented about it a lot; if you haven't read Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow by Orson Scott Card you should; I relate very strongly to Bean, who is able to operate despite a horrendous background by a philosophy that says: "No point in getting emotional about anything. Being emotional didn't help with survival. What mattered was to learn everything, analyse the situation, choose a course of action and then move boldly. Know, think, choose, do. There was no place in that list for 'feel'. Not that Bean didn't have feelings. He simply refused to think about them or dwell on them" which is probably pathological and dangerous, but on the whole I survive. There are moments when the emotions do pop out, and at time anger flare white hot, but it is not disabling. On the other hand I am probably 'living in black and white' - but at least it is not living in a prison cell. Anyway, welcome aboard - I hope we do hear more of you. If you drop me an email to the above address, I'll send you my story in a bit more detail. |
