and as a result tend not to give others space to relate to situations. So my approach to the introduction would be far shorter, balder - and probably put people off :-) On the other hand, I do find that in the length of the introduction, I'm struggling to identify exactly where you think the forum will go. As a BL involved with a local church, what does the forum offer me that CBLF doesn't? Or is the point to encourage us to respond to the concern that are expressed by the 'other side'? One thing I do agree with is that a clear statement that adult child sex is wrong is helpful; although I do agree, I think that if the forum is unclear in its view on this, such ambiguity will discourage possible contributors who might find it helpful otherwise. (You're a pastor who has just discovered that his senior deacon is struggling with an attraction to a 10 year old girl; you don't need to get into a discussion about whether this might be good for both of them, and you will be frightened off the forum if it is being discussed.) And I'm also worried about the title - a lot of evangelicals are for ever looking for clues about the party line of a site, and the phrase 'inclusive' is a real deterrent to them. And it might also, at the margins deter a random visitor who was scanning a search engine's report of sites when looking at this whole issue - are they a board that accepts that adult-child sex is OK? Which is a sad reflection of the way people's minds' work, but is true all the same. It would be a shame to get the front window wrong over such a minor detail.... If I can make a suggestion, I would like to see a 'personal stories' section like Open Hands, perhaps focusing on 'good practice' as experienced by either churches or pedophiles - there are plenty of horror stories!! Anyway, here's hoping that this will provide as valuable support for some of those struggling with the issue of having pedophiles around them as this board does for those of struggling with BEING pedophiles!! |
