I've never been inclined to use ICQ so I don't know for a fact that this will help, but I've been extremely impressed with the security provided by the Zone Alarm personal firewall.

It's freeware, I've been using it for over a year, and it's getting all sorts of incredible press coverage. Check it out if you're concerned about invisible servers...
