because as you probably won't know, the BBC is paid for by a licence fee on all television sets in the UK, and has no advertising. It has been run by the cultural elite for its entire history, and the result is some very good stuff, though probably a bit coloured by the liberal ethos. But it is nice to know it is helping keep one American happy.... If you want to be even more culturally elitist, Radio 3 is classic music with very heavyweight material, whilst Radio 1 is a 'top 40 channel' and 2 is 'Oldies' channel; 5 is live sports and news. I'm really sorry to hear about Heather - I hope she does continue to use the time wisely, as she seems to be! |
