A search for a world better than this one

Altima, Huh, your nick kind of sounds like Ultima, the online fantasy RPG computer game. People get sucked into playing Ultima Online for the same reasons that they watch movies and read books. They want an escape from what they see as their boring and meaningless lives. Some people find their personal fulfillment by transporting themselves to another world. I know that I really enjoy the feeling I get when I fully immerse myself in a really good book (particulary one by Robert Jordan) or get into a computer game. To live out a life that is not mine; to dwell in a fantasy world in which I can do whatever I want; that is thrilling on some basic level. I used to work with virtual reality, and I tell you it's the same thing. I rigged up an environment in which I could sit in a virtual armchair and watch a virtual big-screen TV with live cable feed. I thought it was the coolest thing in the world. Why, when I could sit in a _real_ armchair watching a _real_ (although admittedly smaller) TV, would I find a virtual world so compelling? There's just something about being taken to a different place that is very attractive. It's funny, but most people just need to open their eyes to actually see the world around them and enjoy their lives. Most find that once they actually start to really live their lives, they start to find them more interesting. Anyway, good luck on your aspirations for becoming an actor.
