Has anyone here read the book Embodiment, by James Nelson? This is the best book I have read concerning Christianity and sexuality. Actually, it is the only book I have read on that topic, but it was a turning point for me in my understanding of how God really feels about human sexuality. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is struggling with lust. He explains well how one can take a positive view of sexuality without losing self-control or becoming hedonistic about it. He also explains how Christian understandings of sexuality were influenced (negatively) by secular philosophies that split the body artificially from the spirit, and how the ancient Israelites had a more sex-positive understanding than the Christian tradition has had. I think it's an excellent book. I guess I need to give credit where it's due. I couldn't have gotten over my problems without this book's help. |
