Push!!

A man lay asleep in his bed when suddenly his room filled with light, and the Lord appeared to him in a dream. The Lord told the man he had work for him to do, and showed him a large boulder. The Lord explained that the man was to push against the rock with all his might. So, this the man did. Next night the Lord appeared to him again, and again told the man to push against the rock, with all his strength.

Night after night the man toiled in his dream, pushing… his shoulders set squarely against the cold, massive surface of the unmoving rock, pushing with all his might.

One night, as he dreamed, pushing against the rock, Satan began to talk to his weary mind…

"You have been pushing against that rock for a long time, and it hasn't moved. This is an impossible task, and you are failing."

These thoughts discouraged and disheartened the man.

"Why should I kill myself over this?" he thought, "This rock is never going to move. I'm going to stop pushing so hard, just put in my time, and that will be good enough. This rock isn't going anywhere, anyway."

The man awoke, and decided to take his troubled thoughts to the Lord.

"Lord, I have labored long and hard in your service, putting all my strength to do that which you have asked." he prayed, "After all this time, I have not moved the rock even half a millimeter.  What is wrong? Why am I failing?"

The Lord responded compassionately, "My child, when I called you to serve Me and you answered, I told you that your task was to push against the rock with all of your strength, which you have done faithfully. Never once did I ask you to move the rock. Your task was to push against it. And now you come to Me with your strength spent, and feel that you have failed. But, is that really so? Look at yourself. Your arms are strong and muscled, your back sinewy and brown, your hands are callussed from constant pressure, your legs have become massive and hard. Through opposition you have grown, and your abilities far surpass what you had when you came to Me… Yet you haven't moved the rock. But your calling was to be obedient; to push and to exercise your faith and trust in My wisdom. This you have done well… And now, My child, I will move the rock."

At times, when we hear a word from God, we tend to use our own intellect to decide what He wants, when actually all God wants is simple obedience and faith in Him. By all means, exercise the faith that moves mountains, but know that it is still God who moves them.

When everything seems to go wrong… PUSH!!

When the job gets you down… PUSH!!

When people don't react the way you think they should… PUSH!!

When your money is gone and the bills are due… PUSH!!

When people just don't understand you… PUSH!!
