Am I supposed to stop listening to God to fufill my own needs?

Christ made the ultimate sacrifice. We are called to sacrifice too. But I firmly believe that God expects us to take steps to ensure our own emotional and physical well being. Fufilling your own needs enables you to fulfill the needs of others. If your needs aren't being met, how can you be the light of Christ to those around you?
