I've had generally favourable responses to my coming out to people as a BL - but it has only been to people who've known me well, and there have been a couple of disasters. One was a gay teacher who failed to cope with the issue that I raised about where he was at with kids.... Taking a step back - is it a fair question to ask whether you should be involved with teen ministry when things appear to be out of control? Although the GF issue is a completely closed book to me as someone with zero appreciation for the opposite sex, I've been down the road of seeing healthy relationships turn problematic, and you have the disadvantage of less issues to overcome; the girl isn't identifying herself as 'gay' in order to be open to a sexual relationship with her. The other process that I have seen in my life is a significant rise in my AoA from 12 and less to over 18; it came about as a result of significant older lads coming into my life, combined with there being no alternative - I just didn't have contact with youngsters for a period. I suspect that is a strategy that you may wish to be open to. Anyway, welcome aboard; I hope you find this to be as positive a resource as I have over the past 18 months or so. |
