Please note my other posts below. As for timing, I fear that you don't grasp the politics of that idea. You would do well to read Howard Zinn's "You Can't Be Neutral On A Moving Train" as well as Dr.Martin Luther King, Jr's lengthy interview as published in a late 1960s edition of the u.s. magazine Playboy. Very very important insights to gain in these two resources, despite the latters' popularity in the apparently topical. The issue of "timing" was brought up (by socially well-placed whites and semi-well-placed blacks as well) to Martin Luther King, Jr. and you can learn how he dealt with that. The bottom line is, you feel COMPELLED to take important action now(Is this not your faith moving you?). Don't be misled by lack of nerve coming from seemingly wise persons. Educate yourself about the beginnings of the black civil rights movement and learn its lessons! Martin Luther King, Jr. was "radical" for his time, also. Yet the situation had to have something done about it! And there was a critical mass of persons willing to take the necessary chances. "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world, indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."--Margaret Mead |
