but perhaps one that is more accessible because most of us are committed to not having sex with our YFs. But I do believe that they do gain from the friendship that we do offer. "Thanks for being a good friend" is one quote from my 20 year old YF of the moment (he's got a girlfriend) Another who is now married and expecting his first child whom I spent a lot of time with when he was 17 and 18 describes me as his 'mentor' A 14 year old told his mother, who told me, that he was pleased I was joining the housegroup his parent ran because he'd heard good things about me from a 15 year old whom I only talk to after church. I believe that we can and do make a difference in the lives of the boys whom we grow close to. It is a risky business - mistakes do happen (I'm not going to explain my nick, but you can draw your own conclusion) - but when things go well, both sides do benefit. Lots.... Hope that helps! |
