1)Biblically speaking, the marriage covenant was not, nor ever intended to be the result of secular contract or regulated by secular government, rather the choice of two individuals to be true to each other in the sight of God.(I fully accept the right of personal interpretation of Scripture and the right to pursue love in any form)
2)I believe the Old Testament (Law) and the New Testament (Grace) are opposite sides to the coin. On the one hand you have a list of physical do's and don'ts (Law) and on the other, two commandments that deal strictly with attitudes instead of actions (Grace) Truly if you love God with all your strength and love your neighbor as yourself, then you modify your behavior to not offend either one.(That is to say that if you exhibit love to God and man, in true honor and responsibility, you automatically adopt the behavior that pleases the other)
3)Common Judeo-Christian belief accepts the inherent sinfulness of man, therefore, while your desires are contrary to Scripture, you are still created in His image with three parts (spirit, soul, and body). As for explaining why...who are we to question His motives? As to how to live, I am still seeking the answers myself...
